Miss Universe 2010

Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete, has been crowned Miss Universe 2010, becoming the first Miss Universe from Mexico since 1991 and putting to rest rumors of a curse that had bedeviled other Mexican contestants over the years.

First reaction of Ms. Navarrete when asked for her reaction to winning, coming out with a heartfelt "I can't think of anything, I'm blank... Sorry."

The broadcast began with the parade of typical dresses, as the contestants shared their pride in their heritage and traditions. At this early moment, Miss Mexico's dramatic ensemble, inspired by the Aztec calendar, drew gasps from the live audience and placed her on the road to victory. Others who shone brightly in this stage of the competition were Miss USA, Miss Panama, and Miss Poland, who some felt may have been a bit too eccentric in her costume.

Soon after, the first big surprise of the night came as the 15 semifinalists were announced and the 15 semifinalists then took over stage and screen in the bathing suit competition.

Miss Mexico came in second, with 9.40, to Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipss, who scored a 9.42. Miss Ireland, Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Albania rounded out the remaining three top scorers in this classic competition.

The Judges' Question
Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete, was first to test the waters of the final competition in the Miss Universe pageant. Evan Lysacek, Olympic gold medal winner, asked her thoughts regarding the unsupervised use of the internet to which she responded through an interpreter that the solution is found by inculcating family values in children and adolescents. Jesinta Campbel, Miss Australia, answered her question about whether governments should dictate the clothes people can wear by citing the experience of iranian designer Tala Raani, who's government had censured her when young but who had emigrated to the U.S. and had designed the swimsuits worn by the Miss Universe contestants.

Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipps, gave a simple yet firm response against the death penalty, and Miss Ukraine weighed in on the importance of scanners in airports for the security of travelers. Finally, Miss Philippines failed to directly reply to judge William Baldwin's question to "mention an error you've committed and its consequences", stating that at 22 years of age, she'd not yet committed and serious errors thanks to her loving family.

The Winner
As the responses all sunk in, Miss Mexico's composure and high scores throughout the evening seemed to indicate the crown was hers to lose. As hosts Brett Michaels and Natalie Morales gathered the finalists to read out the names of the runner ups and winner, it increasingly became clear that Jimena Navarrete, Miss Mexico, was on her way to becoming the third Latina in a row and the first Miss Universe from Mexico since 1991. A supposed curse was broken and a young woman of poise, character and self-depreciating humor was crowned Miss Universe 2010.

'Kahani' is the new upcomming bengali movie.

Actress Vidya Balan is currently in Kolkata along with the noted director Sujoy Ghosh for the next new upcoming movie ‘Kahani’ which is a thriller set in Kolkata. ‘Kahani’ is a women oriented film and Sujoy admits that he had only Vidya in his mind for the role.

Sujoy says that he wanted a city which will depict the right kind of emotions and the right kind of feel and also says that Kolkata crowds will love this one. Sujoy learnt from greats like Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha, Tarun Mazumdar etc.

Sujoy says, “This is a Vidya Balan film. I make no excuses to hide that. Rest of the cast is being worked out. The challenge was to get Vidya to agree.”

“What I like about Vidya is that she is dead fussy, but in a good way. She has an uncanny sense about scripts. I thought Kolkata, heroine-oriented film will immediately get to say yes. I was wrong and how!” he adds.

Vidya Balan is now busy with the Santosh Sivan’s Malayalam film ‘Urumi’, where she will do an item song. Though Urumi is not a full-fledged role for Vidya, it’s a gift to her parents (who want her to work in Kerala’s film industry) and a step towards doing more films. In Urumi, Vidya will be seen in a sensuous dance number. It’s a fusion of different classical and modern dance forms. Vidya will soon start learning these dance forms from an expert.

It's a troubling trend that actresses are frequently becoming victims to the online demand for show and tell videos. Websites in order to attract hits, go to weird lengths to advertise MMS videos even as innocent actresses pay the price. With most people choosing to believe that these "skin flicks" are "real", it seems like a battle they're losing.

Salman said in the interview, “I’ve broken up with Katrina. We were friends then for everybody, we are friends now... Koi cheez tootati hai toh isliye kyonki ya toh different ways chali gayi, ya ek shakhs ki growth nahin hui, ya ek ne kuch aur path chun liya, ya sensibility samajh mein nahi aati ... Plane Crash into pieces in Colombia Kills At Least One

A Boeing 737 airliner a passenger plane with 131 people on board split in three during a crash landing at Colombia’s San Andres island after being struck by lightning.

Police said it was a “miracle” that only one person died, apparently from heart attack and 114 people get injury.The passenger jet, operated by local airline Aires, was reportedly hit by lightning before it crashed. The crash landed at 1:49 a.m. local time at Gustavo Rojas Pinilla airport on the Caribbean resort island, the national police said in a statement.

It had flown from the Colombian capital Bogota.

'Miracle'

A police statement said the plane's fuselage had broken up into three pieces.

The pilot reported that the plane was struck by lightning, Donald Tascon, deputy director of Colombia's aeronautics authority, said."We are inspecting the remains of the plane to try to establish what the damages were and what caused the accident," he told Reuters news agency.

Of 99 passengers taken to the Amor de Patria Hospital on San Andres, only four suffered major injuries according to the hospital director, Dr Robert Sanchez.

The 68-year-old woman who died is thought to have died from a heart attack.

San Andres Governor Pedro Gallardo described it as a "miracle" that so many survived.

"We have to give thanks to God," he said.

San Andres Island, about 120 miles (190km) east of the Nicaraguan coast, is a popular tourist destination.
