Famous Telugu film industry actress Yamuna has been apprehended by the Bangalore policeman on prostitution charges. Venugopal, a CEO of a software firm and another man on charges of prostitution.

Yamuna the south–indian actress is facing charges of prostitution as she was caught on the spot by the Bangalore task force when they executed a raid at a seven-star hotel in Bangalore on Thursday.

They have been picked up by the police from a five-star hotel in the city for alleged involvement in a prostitution racket.



Yamuna shot to fame with her film, Mouna Poratam (1989) and she is currently seen in TV serials.

The Bangalore police has confirmed the raid in the hotel, followed by the arrest of actress Yamuna. Police added that investigation is on in the case.

As said by the police, they had received information that the actress arrives in the city in the noon time, whereas the CEO has came at the hotel in the evening time. The detained people were being taken to the CCB office.

In the meantime, police meanwhile are suspecting a high profile prostitution racket after the occurrence.

As said by some sources, Bangalore’s Special Task Force (STF) has raided the most luxurious hotel on ITC Royal Gardenia Hotel, Bangalore on Thursday evening based on exact evidences.

It is likely to be a shock and hot news for the entire ‘Tollywood’ industry together with her fans.

As per the reports, together with Yamuna, there are eight other people have also been detained on Friday night.

MNP – Mobile Number Portability

After years of waiting and with numerous delays for mobile number portability, it will finally be available all over India from this January 20 2011.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said,

“We’re very happy that we are going to launch it nationally. It’s a great step forward for the consumer. It enhances his choice.”

What is MNP?

Ever frustrated with your current service provider? Want to move a better service provider by keeping your present number..? This is just the right time. There are millions of cell phone users in India, So with MNP it gives you freedom to shift to a better service provider with less hassle. This service is applicable to both the Prepaid as well as the Postpaid customers.

Procedure

1. To shift, send an SMS “PORT” followed by your mobile number from your phone to 1900.
2. Your service provider will reply with a unique porting code.
3. Use that code while filling out a detailed form for the new service provider you want to shift to.
4. Within 48 hours, your service will be activated, a nominal fee of Rs 19 will be charged for the same.

More on MNP Process

• Your cell number will be switched off for only one hour. All bills after that, are paid to your new service provider. You’ll be stuck with them for at least 90 days before you can shift again.
• While you can shift from a GSM service to CDMA or vice versa, you cannot shift from one circle to another. If you do, roaming charges will be applied as usual.
• When you port your number, you also need to change your SIM
• For a prepaid number, carry forward of any balance to the new service provider is not permitted.

1. What is Mobile number Portability (MNP)?
Basically, MNP which is the short form of Mobile number Portability which allows you to retain the same number and allows you to switch to different operator irrespective of GSM or CDMA mobile operator.

2. What is the Benefit of using MNP?
In an era of competition where Customer is a King, you get a freedom to choose from the services of different operators present across your circle. Since this allows you to retain the number and change the operator you will be relieved from new set of numbers which you previously used to get when you change the number.

3. What is meant by the term Porting?
Porting is basically a technical word which means that your mobile number is ported to a new recipient operator or in short it’s an act of switching to a new mobile service provider.

If you are a prepaid subscriber then you should have at least completed 90 days with the current operator before applying for MNP. Irrespective of Prepaid or Postpaid, all subscribers who have been a customer of a particular operator for at least a period of 90 days.

6. Will my balance and scheme will be transferred with the number if i shift to any other operator?
No, all balances and schemes of your current operator will be lapsed and you need to choose from the plan which the recipient operator is offering.

7. Can i make use of MNP and shift to other operator without clearing the dues of my existing operator?
Unless and until you clear all the dues of your current postpaid connection you will not be allowed to port your number to any other operator.

8. What are the documents i need to carry when i go for porting my number?
You need to carry two recently clicked passport sized photos along with Proof of Address (POA) and Proof of Identity (POI). Do carry original documents as well as a copy of both.

9. Where i need to go for porting my number?
If you are a customer of Loop Mobile and wishes to move to Vodafone, then you need to go directly go to Vodafone’s official Gallery for porting your number.

10. Do i need to get porting code or the recipient operator will do the same?
It’s always better to take the UPC along with you to the recipient operator’s store. You just need to sms PORT (your 10 digit mobile number) to 1900 and within seconds you will receive the UPC from 1901.

11. What is the Porting charge, is it free?
Porting charge is not free; porting fee is fixed at Rs.19 by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), though some companies may offer porting charges less than Rs. 19, in some cases it may be nil due to immense competition in the telecom market.

12. How many days it will take to port my number?
Porting the number will not take more than 7 working days.

13. Can i shift from CDMA to GSM?
Yes, irrespective of CDMA or GSM, you can shift to the new operator and retain the same number. However you will need to have a GSM handset to accommodate the GSM Sim.

14. Can i cancel the porting request?
In an unlikely even if you wish to cancel the porting request you can do so but for this you need to give a written cancellation request within 24 hours of the porting request.

15. Are there any Cancellation charges?
There will not be any additional cancellation charges but the amount of Rs.19 which is the porting fee will not be refunded.

16. Can i shift within the network from Prepaid to Postpaid using MNP?
If you want to shift within the network like Postpaid to Prepaid or Prepaid to postpaid then it’s not required to exercise the MNP as you can do this without using MNP too. Just visit your Operator’s help desk and they will help you out regarding the same.

17. If am a customer of airtel Mumbai, can i port my number to airtel Maharashtra & Goa network or to any other network operator in Maharashtra & Goa circle?
Since, DOT has decided to implement Mobile Number Portability (MNP) within a circle; customer can port their number to another service provider as long as it is done within a circle. Portability between other circles (called Inter circle portability) is not allowed as yet.

18. Under MNP can i switch my Landline number to another operator?
As of now number portability is only made available for the Mobile customers, so Landline customers will not be able to use MNP service.

19. Do i need to submit the Old sim to the new operator?
No, in any case you should not submit your Old sim to the recipient operator as that sim will be with you.

20. Will there be any service disruption time during the MNP Process?
Yes, there will be a service disruption time of only 2 hrs during this process which will be preferably during the night time.

21. Can i port more than once?
Yes, as of now there is no cap on the number of times you can port to operator, as after every 90 days you can port your number to the operator of your choice.

22. If i have a Reliance number which is registered on my name, can i transfer the same number to any other person in the process of Mobile number Portability?
No, you cannot transfer the ownership in the process of Mobile number portability in any case.

23. How will I know when I have to replace my old SIM with the new SIM?
You will get an sms from the recipient operator with details like port-in date and time after which you can use your existing number on new sim.

24. For how long will be the Unique Porting Code be valid?
Unique Porting Code (UPC) received by you while making the porting request is valid for a period of 15 days after which if you wish to get UPC again then you need to again send Porting request to 1900.

25. Who is the recipient operator?
Recipient Operator is an operator or a service provider who will be providing mobile service to the subscriber after porting. In other words, recipient operator is the operator that a mobile subscriber wants to port to.

A powerful earthquake of 7.4 magnitude struck southwestern Pakistan in the small hours of the day, tremors of which were felt in parts of northwestern India, including the national capital.

Delhiites rushed outside their homes in the wee hours of the chilly night as tremors were felt in the capital.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the epicentre of the earthquake was located in southwestern Pakistan in the desert area bordering Iran and Afghanistan.

“It was a shallow earthquake which struck at a depth of 7.4 km,” an IMD official said.

The epicentre of the quake was located at 28.9 degrees north on the latitude and 64 degrees east on the longitude, the IMD said.

A US Geological Service report said the epicentre of the earthquake was located 45 km from Dalbandin in Southwest Pakistan.

It said the focal depth of the earthquake was 84 km. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property.

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake had devastated northern Pakistan and parts of Kashmir in October 2008, killing thousands of people.

Gita Dey passes away at 80

KOLKATA: Veteran actor Gita Dey, who acted in over 200 films in a career spanning 72 years, passed away in Kolkata on Sunday night. She was 80.

Best known for her portrayal of the scheming, aggressive woman in the family in several films, Dey started her acting career as a child artist at the age of seven in a Bengali film 'Ahutee' in 1938, in a film directed by Dhiren Ganguly. She went on to act in over 200 plays and kept working till her last years despite being terminally ill. She received several awards, including a medal from Calcutta University.

Dey has also been associated with the All India Radio, doing roles in radio plays. Along with films, she continued acting in theatre till 1996. Her performance as the tormented mother in Ritwik Ghatak's landmark film Meghe Dhaka Tara' won her praise from around the world. She also acted in Satyajit Ray's Teen Kanya'. Apart from Ghatak and Ray, Dey also acted in films by renowned directors like Debaki Bose and stage stalwart Sisir Bhaduri. Towards the end of her career, she acted in the hit Bollywood musical Parineeta' alongside Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan.

Proficient in both comic and negative roles, she did over 2000 stage shows, including scores of jatra (folk theatre) performances, telefilms and TV serials. Notable among her films are Noukadubi', Saat Pake Bandha', Malyadaan', Abhaya O Srikanta', Jaya', Mouchak', Dui Bhai', Barnochora', Nishipadma' and Pita-Putro'. She won applause for her performance in recent Tollywood flicks like Tolly Lights' and Chirodini Tumi Je Amar'.

Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee sent his condolences to Dey's family. Describing her as a talented actor, Bhattacharjee said her death was a loss to the film industry.

Tendulkar hands India World Cup worry

Sachin Tendulkar handed India a World Cup injury worry on Saturday when he was reported to have pulled out of the tour of South Africa.

The veteran batsman equalled Sanath Jayasuriya's world record of 444 one-day international appearances in the one-run win over South Africa but struggled to make 24 off 44 balls.

Tendulkar did not field during the South African innings and there was no immediate explanation of the reason.

But quoted on www.cricinfo.com, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said: "Most likely he is going back".

A tour insider said that Tendulkar had injured a hamstring, a worrying development with the World Cup starting in South Asia on February 19.

103 pilgrims returning from Sabarimala Ayappa temple were killed tonight when a jeep ploughed through the devotees in a forest at Pulimedu in Idukki district of Kerala, triggering a stampede.

The tragedy occured when a jeep carrying some pilgrims waded into a crowd of devotees, who were returning from ‘makara samkrama pooja’, through a narrow trekking path in a forest, about 300km from the state capital, district administration sources said. They said at least 45 people were killed and the toll could go up.

When the jeep turned turtle, it triggered the stampede as the pilgrims ran helter skelter, the police said. Many injured persons have been admitted to nearby hospitals.State Home Minister Kodiyari Balakrishnan asked the top police brass, including the DGP, to rush to the spot.

Most of the pilgrims involved in the tragedy were from Tamil Nadu who were returning to their homes to celebrate Pongal after having a darshan of the deity at the hill shrine. The accident spot was identified at about 50 km away from Sabarimala. As per initial estimates, nearly 1.5 lakh pilgrims had left by this route for home. Relief operations have been delayed due to heavy traffic and narrow roads in the area.

The Southern Naval Command has dispatched an emergency medical team to the accident site.The Navy helicopter carrying the medical team is also carrying emergency medical supplies to deal with the mishap there. Earlier another helicopter was launched at first light today to Kannur in north Kerala to ferry the Chief Minister of Kerala from there to the accident site to enable him to personally supervise the relief operations.

An estimated 103 people are estimated to be dead following an accident leading to a stampede. The mishap occurred at Uppupara, near Vandiperiyar, Kerala`s Pathanamthitta district.

Ten years ago, a stampede at Pampa on way to the hill shrine killed 50 people on the occasion of Makar Jyoti. majority of the killed are expected to be from outside Kerala.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi have expressed deep shock and sent their condolences to the families of those killed in the Sabarimala stampede.

The PM has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh for the families of each of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.

President Pratibha Patil also condoled the death of Sabarimala pilgrims.

In a letter to the Kerala Chief Minister and Governor, she expressed grief over the tragedy.

Patil wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in the incident. Over 100 pilgrims returning from the shrine were killed and as many others were injured.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has also announced Rs. 1 lakh for the families of stampede victims hailing from his state, Rs. 20,000 for injured.

Model-actor Samir Soni and his ladylove and actress turned jewelry-designer Neelam Kothari are set to tie the knot Jan 23.

The shy actor, lately out of Bigg Boss said, "We will have a very quiet wedding ceremony with just our parents and siblings. We will have a wedding reception for our friends Jan 26."

Earlier it was reported that Samir and the actress had separated after they had a clash over wedding issue as Neelam was ready to marry the model but Samir was still not sure.

"Now that Samir has made up his mind, Neelam's joy knows no bounds. Both love each other very much," the source added.

However, Samir has dismissed the reports that he is set to marry on January 17 but accepted that marriage is surely on the cards. "Both her family and mine are not in town. The moment they're all here, we shall exchange marriage vows. And that could be this month. Or even early February."
